Carabellies
- 2 pkgs. yeast
- "1 1/2 c warm, not hot water (105 degrees to 115 degrees)"
- 4 c flour
- 1 T oil
- 1 t salt
- "1 sm. can mushrooms, sliced"
- Italian sausage
- Pepperoni
- "1 lb. ground beef, lean"
- 1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
- 1/2 t oregano
- 1/2 t basil
- "1 8 oz. pkg. mozzarella cheese, shredded"
- "1 egg, beaten"
"Combine yeast and warm water in a large bowl. Let stand 5 minutes. Blend in flour,
oil and salt to form a dough. Turn dough onto a lightly floured board, and pat into
a 1"" thick round. Knead about 5 minutes. Brush surface with oil. Place dough in
a bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size
(about an hour.) Meanwhile prepare sauce. Brown sliced Italian sausage in 1 T oil.
Drain. Brown ground beef. Drain. Add tomato sauce to ground beef in skillet. Add
oregano and basil. Bring to boil. Simmer. After dough has risen, punch it down and
cut into 8 equal pieces. Roll out into rectangles. Place about 2 - 3 T ground beef
mixture in center. Spread out, but not all the way to the edges. Top with pizza
ingredients, as desired and mozzarella cheese. Fold over and seal with beaten egg.
Place on greased cookie sheets. With knife, make air vents in carabellies. Bake
at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, until browned."
